Turbo Failure and Analysis

Oil Contamination

Oil Contamination

Oil Contamination

Oil Contamination is when the oil contains foreign debris or matter. Most commonly from a failing engine bearing. This Debris will end up in the oil feed supply for the turbo and forced into the turbo damaging the bearings, turbine shaft, and bearing housing bores.

Oil Starvation

Oil Contamination

Oil Contamination

This is the most common form of failure we see. Lack of oil pressure and flow will result in the bearing system loosing its thin film of oil that the journal bearings float on. Similar to a rod bearing failure from lack of oil.

Turbos have very specific oil requirements, if you are not sure what those requirements are for your turbo, just ask us!

Foreign Object Debris

your turbo system should always involve a quality air filter. Some setups such as Forward facing kits, or others may not fit a filter but will be at risk to ingest debris and damage the turbocharger, resulting in a expensive repair bill that could have been easily avoidable.

Even a Mesh screen or TurboGuard will help prevent this!
